A Republican congressman
has introduced legislation that
would essentially block the FCC
from enacting its new rules to
regulate Internet providers.
Days after Chairman
Julius Genachowski revealed
his plan to apply to broadband
companies a series of rules that
already govern phone providers,
Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) debuted
legislation that he hopes will alert
lawmakers to the FCC's "maneuver
to regulate the Internet."

A majority of lawmakers
have lined up against the FCC's
plan to wield greater power over
broadband companies.
A group of 171
House Republicans
joined Democratic critics
in opposing the Federal
Communications Commission's
plan to classify broadband as a
telecommunication service, which
they suggested was a power grab.
In a letter to FCC
Chairman Julius Genachowski, who
is spearheading the reclassification,
the Republicans reproached his ambition
and said only Congress should decide
where to classify broadband services.
House Minority Leader John Boehner
(R-Ohio), Minority Whip Eric Cantor
(R-VA) and 37 Senate Republicans
already had weighed in against the plan.
Genachowski
also has earned Democratic opposition;
75 House Democrats have also written
the FCC in the last month, charging the
chairman with over-reach

Net-neutrality regulation is not good,
not even for its most ardent supporters.
Google, eBay, Facebook, Amazon,
and other net-neutrality proponents
have a proven track record of success
in serving their customers.
But Why they prefer to put their future
in the hands of governments instead of
depending on their own proven capacities
of service is simply beyond me.
