Repeal Obamcare ;

The Department of Health
and Human Services (HHS) had
information that Obamacare would
raise health expenditures and drive
hospitals into the red prior to the final
House healthcare vote, but didn't share
it with members of Congress because
the pending report was being internally
reviewed.

"They were so eager
to try to sell [the bill] to somebody,
that they suppressed what were valid
reports from experts in their own
administration," Rep. Mike Rogers
(R.-Mich.) said in an interview.

The Center for Medicare
and Medicaid Services (CMS),
a part of the HHS, on April 22
released the report, "Estimated
Financial Effects of the 'Patient
Protection and Affordable Care
Act,' as Amended."

"Basically, the CMS folks had the
report internally reviewing it, but they
did not release it publicly until now.

The congressman's point is that the
administration had this information
before the vote," Rogers' press
secretary said.

When asked if the report's numbers
could be off and might actually predict
a much darker picture of the future,
Rogers said, "Absolutely."

"If you look back,
they've always been wrong halfway,"
he said of the federal government's
projections for the future of healthcare.

"The costs have always been
at least double what they predict.

And the ramifications on the negative
side are always half of what they predict."

Rep. Michael C. Burgess (R.-Tex.)
said the report stated the obvious.

"The findings from this report
should surprise no one.

For over a year I have said that the
Democrats more-government-and-
higher-taxes approach was the wrong
way to achieve meaningful health reform,
and would fail."

The report says
that some measures of the bill could
control healthcare costs in the future.

However,
it says that "during 2010-2019 .
these effects would be outweighed by
the increased costs associated with the
expansions of health insurance coverage"

Defenders of RomneyCare
claimed that by getting everyone
in to the pool costs would go down,
because they would be spread over
more people.

But costs have gone up, not down,
because of an exploding demand for
healthcare from newly insured people
who pay little or nothing for that care.

And the same thing
will happen under Obamacare.

Spending on subsidized care
doubled between 2007 and 2009,
from $630 million to about $1.3 billion.

And premiums have been rising
in the 10% to 12% range annually,
leading the Massachusetts state
treasurer to complain,

"We're still waiting for the savings."

President Obama helped relieve
the stress a little with an $8 billion
bailout for the Bay State's
Medicaid program.

Conservatives
want a Republican President
who will stand up to liberal
Democratic legislators, not
cave to their demands.

Mitt's millstone
is that he continues to defend his plan,
even as the conservatives he wants to
attract are adamantly opposed to
Obamacare.

He has been trying to convince them
there is a difference, but the similarities
far outweigh the differences.

Conservatives can see the similarities,
and they are holding them against Romney.

Conservatives can be forgiving,
but they want their leaders to be
honest with them.

No one, not even liberals,
is buying the notion that RomneyCare
is wonderful while Obamacare is a
government takeover of the healthcare
system.

And Romney
should quit trying to convince them
